Seven miles north of Montrose Pennsylvania lies the 405 acre Salt Springs State Park. Coming up next week, the park is offering a course on managing deer populations and the effect that may have on the spread of chronic wasting disease…or CWD. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, chronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological condition that affects deer, elk, caribou and moose…as well as others in the cervid species. CWD was first discovered in Colorado in 1967 and was first found in animals east of the Mississippi River in 2002.
